When the idea for Elise’s Choice birthed, the village of Petheralm captivated me. A small village surrounded by a supposedly Enchanted Forest, a large mountain range, a gently flowing river, and vast meadows, it felt like home and I wanted to spend as much time there as possible. Its cast of colorful characters begged for their individual stories to be shared. Therefore, I entertained the idea of creating a series entitled Maidens of Petheralm.
An avid reader, I am currently suffering from series burnout. I long for a complete story that doesn’t require me to immediately purchase or borrow the sequel. And that’s what I wanted my series to be: a collection of stories with roots in Petheralm. Stories and characters related to each other, but not necessarily entwined. I wanted readers to be able to choose to read one or all, and to feel content with each story whether or not they read the entire series.
Then I wrote Elise’s Choice. Yes, when a reader closes the book, Elise’s story is resolved. But the addition of another character begs for the story to continue.
So . . . will there be a sequel to Elise’s Choice? Yes, there certainly will. For me as the writer, there must be. The additional character pleads for her story to be heard.
Will there a series? Yes, I intend to follow my original idea and tell the stories of the maidens in Petheralm. Ingrid and Areya are two that beg for release.
When can the sequel be expected? The answer is simple: I honestly don’t know. It is my current writing project. But here is the deal: writing is not my only career. I am also a teacher. A teacher with 120 essays and 50 paragraphs waiting to be graded. And that’s simply a week’s worth of work from my students.
So, this is my promise to you. I will work diligently on the sequel, but I will not compromise the detailed descriptions and the fascinating characters, things that readers have declared made Elise’s Choice awesome, to have the sequel completed quickly. If you travel patiently with me throughout this journey, I promise I will make it well worth your time.
