The past two weeks, I spent a great deal of time renovating and editing: renovating my house by helping my husband build a walkway in our front yard and editing my novel, Elise’s Choice. Then I realized something. Renovating and editing are basically the same thing. Renovating is restoring or repairing a building or item one owns, and editing is correcting or modifying something written. Both involve changing something to make it better. See? Synonyms.
Now I know that, grammatically, renovating and editing are used in different contexts and therefore aren’t considered synonyms. But I’m not talking grammatically. Grammar gets boring sometimes. So, I’m going to spice it up. When asked what I’ve been doing lately, I think I’ll reply, “Editing my yard and renovating my novel.” And if people look at me strangely, I can always blame it on too much sun!

We spent five of the hottest days of the summer working on this project, and we are proud of our accomplishment.
