Returning to the Fairy Tale Retelling Series, this week's post focuses on Beauty and the Beast. There are numerous retellings of this popular classic, but oddly, I've only read a few. For the original version, click here.
Books I've Read:
Belle by Cameron Dokey ~ Included in the Once Upon a Time series by Simon & Schuster, this is a simple retelling with one hitch: Belle lacks the beauty of her sisters. She feels her name is inappropriate. It's by Cameron Dokey; therefore, it is definitely well-written and worth a read.
Beauty by Robin McKinley: This is Disney's version fleshed out and minus the singing and talking furniture. Robin McKinley is an excellent author, and this novel is definitely a classic.

Movies I've Seen:
Beauty and the Beast (1991) ~ Is there a fairy tale fan that hasn't seen this movie? It's a beautiful version of the story, but . . . I'm even more excited about the upcoming live-action version!
Beastly (2011) ~ This is a modern retelling of the story. Frankly, I thought it was rather cheesy. However, I do want to read the novel that inspired it.
Once Upon a Time (ABC) ~ Yes, I am once again including the television series. I love the Beauty and the Beast storyline. It is ingenious to make the Beast and Rumplestiltskin one and the same.

Books I Want to Read:
Beastly by Alex Flinn ~ As mentioned above, this is definitely a retelling I want to read. I'm certain I'll enjoy it more than the movie.
Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow by Jessica Day George ~ This has been on my TBR list for a while; I already own it on my Kindle. Hailed a mix of the Nordic legend East of the Sun, West of the Moon and Beauty and the Beast, it promises to be an interesting read.

Heart's Blood by Juliet Marillier ~ This sounds like the usual retelling, but "Beauty" is a scribe for the "Beast." It might be an interesting take.
Have you read any interesting Beauty and the Beast retellings? Watched any Beauty and the Beast movies or shows? Let me know in the comments!
