After weeks of mild temperatures and above-average rainfall, sultry summer weather finally exerted its influence over Southeast Missouri. At one point today when I checked the weather app on my phone, it was 92 degrees but the humidity made it feel like 110 degrees. No, that is not a typo. 110 degrees.
I could use this post to lament about the misery that is a Southeast Missouri summer, but I’m not going to do that. Instead, I’m going to focus on the positive.
Let’s see . . . something positive about 92-but-feels-like-110-degree weather . . .
~ The sun is so brilliant you can taste it. Yes, taste it. It tastes like the salty sweat that beads above your upper lip.
~ Ice cream tastes better (if that’s possible) on days like today. And, it doesn’t cause weight gain because you sweat off the extra calories. Right?
~ It’s too hot for the bugs (mostly mosquitoes) to pester you.
~ The sunset is absolutely stunning. It looks like a watercolor painting in shades of magenta and orange. As the sun eases into the horizon, it resembles an egg yolk slipping into a bowl of cookie dough.
~ It’s only temporary.
Until the next post . . . keep cool!
