Did you know that April is National Poetry Month? It certainly is! Since I am required to teach a poetry unit to my seventh graders, I saved it for this month. Over the course of the month I will share poems written by my students, other poets, and myself. I would like to post a poem every day, but we'll see how it goes. I have A LOT going on this month including standardized state testing for my students and a three-day author event at a local Comic Con (YAY!), so no promises.
Since I missed yesterday, I am posting two poems: one I wrote on a recent school professional development meeting trip and another shared by poets.org. Click here to check out their awesome website!
Dwellings, businesses, hearts, and minds
Open, allow entrance
Open, exit the same
Rendered from wood, steel, or imagination
Sometimes better under lock and key
Check tomorrow for another poem! Until then . . . keep smiling!
