It seems like it's been FOREVER since I've written a post. Technically, it's been a little over a month, but that is quite a dry stretch, especially since my goal was to post once a week. Now here it is, halfway through National Poetry Month, and I am just now posting. I'd like to say it's because I've been busy writing (I have, to an extent), but that wouldn't be entirely true. Suffice it to say I've had other responsibilities occupying my time. Anyway, here I am, finally posting!
Since today is National Haiku Poetry Month, today's post will feature haiku. Haiku are three-lined poems with seventeen syllables: five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, and five again in the last. They originated in Japanese, and nature is typically the topic. However, haiku can be about anything topic. They are actually my favorite type of poems to write. Here is a haiku I wrote this evening that sums up today:
Sometimes you just need
to watch a cheesy movie
or read sappy books
Try your hand at a haiku or two, and leave them in the comments.
Until the next time . . . keep smiling!
