Since today is Friday the 13th, I decided to focus the five favorites on superstitions. Bad luck is commonly believed to follow people on Friday the 13th. Here are five other superstitions regarding bad luck:
~ A black cat crossing one's path brings bad luck: Hmm, I've adopted a black cat who crosses my path quite frequently, and my luck seems fine. Coincidence? I think not.
~ Breaking a mirror causes seven years of bad luck: Done this. No bad luck for me!
~ Opening an umbrella in the house invites bad luck: Okay. Although I know it isn't true, this one sticks with me. Whenever someone starts to open an umbrella indoors, I immediately reply, "Don't do that!"
~ Walking under a ladder brings bad luck: Considering that walking under a ladder is simply dangerous, it could bring bad luck. Just don't do it.
~ A hummingbird that flies nearby a person carries bad news for that person: Hummingbirds creep me out. Mean little birds!
Of course, there are good luck superstitions as well. Let's focus on five of those!
~ A four-leaf clover brings good luck: These little suckers are difficult to find!
~ A rabbit's foot brings good luck: I owned a purple rabbit's foot key chain when I was a child. It smelled . . . musty.
~ If one's palm itches, he/she will receive a large sum of money: My palms have itched. Where's my money?
~ Finding a penny minted in one's birth year brings good luck: I rarely find my birth year anymore. (Sigh.)
~ A cricket in the house brings good luck: What about spiders? I have plenty of those!
